2015 JET Program Applications Available Now!
The Japanese Government is now accepting applications for the 2015 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. The JET Program seeks to enhance internationalization in Japan by promoting cultural understanding between Japan and the United States. The applications for U.S. Citizens can be found at http://www.us.emb-japan.go.jp/JET/apply.html.
Participants will have the opportunity to strengthen relations abroad as either an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT), assisting in English education at Japan's elementary, junior and senior high schools, or as a Coordinator for International Relations (CIR) in offices of local government authorities or related organizations, engaged in internationalization activities. Through hands-on experience living and working in Japan, JET participants develop a deep understanding of Japanese society and people. The JET Program offers a unique opportunity for young Americans to immerse themselves in Japanese culture, and also for the Japanese people to learn about the United States through close interaction with JET participants.
Since the program's inception in 1987, more than 60,000 people from 62 countries have participated in the program. There are currently 4,476 participants from 42 countries, including 2,457 Americans.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and hold a bachelor's degree by July 1, 2015. Proficiency in Japanese is not required for the ALT position. Candidates receive a generous stipend and roundtrip airfare to Japan. The application deadline is November 14, 2014 at 5:00pm (EST). All application materials must arrive at the Embassy of Japan in Washington, D.C. by the deadline.
